Kroger’s headquarters are centralized in downtown Cincinnati, but it spans several states with store formats that include supermarkets, hypermarkets, department stores, convenience stores and mall jewelry stores. Kroger branded grocery stores are located throughout the Midwestern and Southern United States.

The Sugar Land, Texas location was Journeyman Construction’s first Kroger remodeling project. The scope of work included the conversion of an old outside garden area to a drive-through pharmacy and the construction of a new floral cooler box. Journeyman also changed out the décor, painted all of the walls and installed new wainscoting. New produce cases/islands, cases in the seafood/meat department and the replacement of the ceramic tile in all of the fresh food areas were also included in the scope of work.

This project called for the transformation of the 7701 N. Lamar Office Building interior into a modern and architectural space to serve as the Concordia University’s Headquarters. Each of the five floors, totaling 55,000 sf, was stripped to the exterior walls and exposed roof deck. After demolition was completed, Journeyman updated all electrical, communications and fire alarm cabling offering a fresh canvas to tenants. Most notably, Journeyman Construction completely finished-out the 1st floor to serve as the company’s corporate office space. We worked with our project architect to design an office layout conducive to an efficient working environment.

Journeyman managed the transformation of the building including the entire interior demolition, mechanical systems upgrades, interior framing, and finishes. The finishes incorporate tile flooring in the 1st floor common areas, custom wood trim package, multi-tone accent walls, and built-in wood shelving units. The two elevator cars were refinished with wood paneling echoing the wood package in the building. Dramatic architectural finishes are carried through to the common areas of the upper levels as well to maintain a building continuity.

Harris Ridge Fire and EMS station is a 8,963 sf facility in north Austin. The design was intended to reflect nearby residential roof forms and provide appropriate scale that reflects different internal uses—residential, work/study and fire equipment storage. Prototype floor plans were used to develop a unique image for this facility. Materials were chosen for long-term durability in a high maintenance environment.

While in transition between Green Builder Standards and newer LEED Standards, the design and construction teams incorporated the philosophy of sustainability without benefit of an established budget to provide sustainable design.

The station is comprised of four truck bays, living quarters, administrative offices and dispatch, as well as recreations areas and full kitchen. Special systems included a fueling station, vehicular exhaust system and back-up power generation.

Galleria at Red Oaks is a medical office and retail complex with a three-story office buildng complimented by a 75-foot tower located near Cedar Park City Hall. The complex includes five individual professional office buildings, a three-story multi-office building with garage parking, and a large retail storefront building.

The entire project site encompasses eight acres off Cedar Creek Road. We cleared the site, installed utilities, added paving for parking areas, landscaped with new cedar trees and constructed seven buildings. Each of the buildings are supported by drilled piers and concrete slabs; leave-outs are incorporated into the design for future tenants to place building mechanical systems to meet their needs.

The abundance of rain during 2007 and such a vast unimproved site, challenged our team to keep the project on schedule. Luckily, we were able to compensate by condensing our scheduled forces once the rains had subsided. Strict planning had also gone into ordering long-lead materials, a foresight that proved very beneficial.

The building architecture has a mixed style of Mediterranean with stucco and tile roofs and Texas Hill County with stone facades and cedar tree landscaping, together creating a cohesive community. Large cast stone columns create the entrances of each of the buildings and over-sized front gables expand the feel of the professional buildings. The buildings are constructed with structural steel with reinforced wood roofing trusses. The professional buildings are decorated with French-style multilite windows and doors. The retail shell utilizes storefront glass and glazing.
