Journeyman Construction served as General Contractor for Capital Metro’s Redline Rail Station on 4th Street between Trinity and Neches in Austin. This project was the very first light rail termination and embarking station for downtown Austin. The project included the conversion of a two-way street with metered parking to a one-way street with a new rail platform and bus transfer parking.

The project was built in five phases to allow for the constant maintenance of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The conversion to a one-way street was accomplished after phase three and required Journeyman to re-educate the vehicular drivers and provide intense signage and flagmen to assure safety of the construction workers and public.

The scope of work included sitework, paving, landscaping, utlities, electrical, concrete, structural steel platform, guard rails and site amenities. Journeyman’s existing safety program was updated and intensified during this project to insure the project was completed incident free. The schedule was a critical element and each phase required carefully planning of several different vital activities. The team took great pride in the fact that we were able to make adjustments to the schedule and overcome each and every challenge encountered during the course of the project. Journeyman Construction successfully completed this project on time and under budget for CapMetro.

Journeyman Construction provided project management and coordination of subcontractors for a new four-story, 100,000 sf Adult Probation Office Building in downtown San Antonio. With the Bexar County Jail and Jail Annex in close proximity to the Probation Building, this project was first step for the County to implement the entire district into a campus intended to the keep the correctional and rehabilitation facilities within one area for ease of transition of the parolees.

Journeyman Construction’s diligence in searching for quality materials and subcontractors was evident in the procurement and installation of the pre-cast panels. The difficulties lie in the delivery, handling and installation of the panel itself. Keeping a 12-ton panel plum and level while trying to achieve symmetry across the face was a daunting task, but the use of a qualified erector chosen for experience and capability and our in-house instrument-based quality monitoring program, proved to essential for the successful installation.

The project, which was delivered ahead of schedule, included the demolition of existing residences to prepare the site. The buildings has a drilled pier foundation, concrete floor slabs and a loading dock. The Center included raised classroom floors, a lightning protection center and elevator installation.

Journeyman Construction served as the General Contractor for the University Hospital’s construction of an addition of the heliport to an existing parking garage.

The project was located in and next to an operating hospital and included the construction of a new level of the parking garage, installation of a new triple wide operations trailer, a new foam fire suppression system, a new fuel storage and distribution system and a new entrance to the hospital. This project also included a new fire alarm system, communications and security systems, as well as parallel backup emergency systems.

The scope of work included demolition, site work, paving, concrete, utilities, electrical, HVAC, structural steel platform, guard rails, installation of an above ground fuel storage tank and underground fuel lines, lightning protection, heliport lighting and landing pad safety netting. Journeyman’s existing safety program was updated and intensified during this project to insure the project was completed incident free. The schedule was a critical element since this project needed to be completed prior to construction of a new hospital tower. Journeyman worked two and three shifts to help bring this project in as quickly as possible despite the numerous design changes with no lost time accidents.

One of the more specialized segments of the project called for the installation of an above ground storage tank and the construction of a stainless steel Jet A fuel supply system that included a refurbished pump skid with a new filter vessel.
